On February 8th, 2017 our lives were forever changed by the unthinkable. As we arrived at the hospital, laboring and eager to meet our new arrival, we heard the words that no parents should ever have to hear. “There is no heartbeat”. Those are the words that would forever change our world.

Earlier that morning, at a routine check, we heard Connor’s heartbeat and joked about his stubbornness to not come out. Just 9 hours later and he was gone. On February 9th, after 21 hours of labor and tears, our sweet Connor Michael was born sleeping. He was peaceful and perfect in every way. Our first hello that we had so long awaited was now a goodbye.

We left for the hospital full of excitement and returned home with empty arms and a broken heart. There were decisions to contemplate, arrangements to be made and questions to be answered, especially from a confused 3 year old boy who was expecting a baby brother. We powered through, making choices we never thought we would have to make.
On February 17th, we buried our second born. After months of waiting for autopsy results, it was confirmed that Connor’s life was taken due to a cord accident. Something that could not have been prevented yet it was no easier to digest.

Some say it takes a village to raise a child. We realize it takes a village to mourn one. The support we received from our friends, family and community carried us through each day following our loss. This village is what encouraged us to press on and to share our story in hopes of inspiring others to do the same.
Here we are, years later, amazed to see that such a small person can continue to have such a huge impact. Although he is not here in our arms, Connor continues to bless us with happiness and life lessons. He provides us with the courage and desire to help others overcome such devastating loss and to again see the beauty in each day.
